Reference Recording
A reference recording is an audio clip that you attach to your song for listening purposes. It is not synced to the notation and does not follow the playhead. Instead, it appears next to the score when you share your song on the My ScoreCloud website, allowing others to listen alongside the notation.
Learn more about reference recordings
You can add one reference recording per song.
If your song was created from audio recording or import, your original recording is automatically added as a reference recording. Remove it with the X button in the Mixer Panel. In the Mixer you can add your original recording as a synced audio track as well.
You can add any audio file as a reference recording. This is useful when you want to include audio that does not exactly match the structure of the notated music. This can be a concert performance, a rehearsal recording, or any version that differs in form or key. It can also be an entirely different piece of music that you want listeners to compare with your score, for example to highlight instrumentation, interpretation or sound.
A a reference recording is not analyzed and does not generate notation. It remains a standalone audio file that is simply presented with the score. Use reference recordings whenever you want to provide an alternative version, context or inspiration separate from the score playback.
Tip: When sharing scores on the My ScoreCloud website, you can also embed a reference video from YouTube or Vimeo to the score page.
